Seeing Beyond the Object

March 22, 2010 Last Saturday was the start of Composition and Design class.  This course will explore how best to compose your photograph in a dynamic way.  I was excited to start the class and to bring my composition skills to the next level.  Our first exercise found us in the school's bathroom.  Yes, the bathroom.  I wasn't sure about this assignment, but my classmates really created some great shots.  The exercise was named the Porcelain Odyssey, but we could expand to faucets and other surrounding fixtures.  Below are a few images from the exercise. The negative space found in this image is what I enjoy the most.  The shine of the drain in contrast with the white sink makes the image.   Don't forget the soap bubbles, they add the needed interest and texture to the shot. The goal of this image was the reflection of the floor on the bowl. After lunch our second assignment covered circles and squares.  We were sent off to the streets of Georgetown to capture as many circles and squares as we could find.  Below are my results! The first image actually covers both circles and squares in one image. I loved the vibrant color of this advertisement, plus it covered my circle requirement.
