Making a Difference with Merriment: 2nd Annual CDIA Holiday Fair

December 22, 2009 Our Waltham Campus has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland!  Kicking off the Holiday Season, The Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University held its 2nd Annual Holiday Fair on December 5, 2009 from 11am to 3pm.  This event, which was open to the public, hosted a variety of festive activities and boasted a lot of a holiday cheer.  Not only was this fair fun, it served a greater purpose – profit from the event was donated to local charity Birthday Wishes (www.birthdaywishes.org) of Newton, MA. Photo by Israel Ferraz Attendees of all ages were able to indulge in delicious treats at the bake sale, create a holiday ornament at the arts and crafts table, take their chance at the raffle, or sit for a holiday-themed photo.  Even Old Saint Nick was on hand to help raise funds for this great cause! CDIA was lucky to receive heavy support from the local business and arts community for this great charity. Donations were received from Margarita's Mexican Restaurant of Waltham, Anderson Florist, Moody Street Nutrition, Edible Arrangements of Waltham, The Coffee Man, Lizzy's Ice Cream, Biagio's Restaurant, Contemporary Traditions by Maryann Ryan, Shaw's Supermarkets of Waltham, Russo's of Watertown, and Jake's Dixie Roadhouse, to name a few. However, the event would not have happened without extensive volunteer support from CDIA alumni, students, and staff.  Alums Israel Ferraz and Sheryl Lanzel served as photographers, and were graciously assisted by current students Kathleen Ezersky, Laura Young, Duncan Manning and Melissa Jakobsche.  Photography alum Bev Kunze,  Audio Production alum Sergio Espitia and a Media Production Team led by Howard Phillips captured behind-the-scenes footage of the event.  Also spotted: CDIA alum John Corbett assisting Maureen Lawson and Julie Jordan with the bakesale, raffle and everything in-between, Kathryn Mora offering up colorful balloon sculptures, and current student Tatiana Dzevenskaya and her family helping out with the arts and crafts booth, among many others. Many thanks go out to all that participated!  CDIA at Boston University is proud that we are able to give back to our community on such a wide scale, during this holiday season. If you missed this event, don’t worry: the newly-formed Media Production Team is putting together a recap of the day’s events, to be posted here at www.cdiabu.com. Photos from the day will be posted on the CDIA Facebook Page. Like the holiday decorations?  They were donated by J+C Christmas.   Learn more by clicking here.
