All workshops will be led by the area's leading experts in the field. Space for workshops is limited and they do fill up quickly, so please register early.

Participants are required to own a digital SLR camera and have a solid understanding of basic digital workflow, Adobe Photoshop and Apple Macintosh operating systems.

Grand Illusion:
Classic Hollywood Studio Glamour Portraiture

Hollywood’s Golden Era produced some of photography’s most spectacular portraiture. Glamour photographers like George Hurrell made stars into legends with their sparkling imagery.

In this two-day, hands-on workshop, noted photographer, author, teacher and lecturer Arthur Rainville will teach you the secrets that made this genre so magical:

• Facial and body analysis techniques

• When and how to use hard and soft light modifiers

• Using ‘kicker’ lights to add dramatic dimension

• Creating Hollywood movie ‘cookies’ to spark backgrounds

• Melodramatic posing for acute and obtuse angular impact

• Delicate hand and body posing to accentuate the feminine

• Powerful men’s portrait designs via perspective

• Producing simple sets to build bold compositions

• The ‘Look’ – old-world soft focus in a digital world

• Modern retouching techniques to mirror the old masters

Demonstrations and studio photography sessions with models will serve as practical experience. Attendees will also take part in round-tables about how to use classical inspirations in today’s contemporary glamour photography. Each workshop participant is urged to bring examples of fashion and glamour photographs from magazines for discussion.

Participants are also encouraged to bring their digital cameras and lenses to record lighting, posing demonstrations and for the studio sessions.

1001 Ways to Make a Buck

In this all-day workshop, participants will realize there is no excuse for NOT making money…on-demand! Noted photographer, author, teacher and lecturer Arthur Rainville will show the limitless ways to earn dollars with the skills and equipment you already have; all it takes is a little belief, some initiative and a good idea. This workshop will provide all the ideas you need – and show you how to spin off your own take on each.

• How to discover new (and re-ignite former) clients

Canon Portable Lighting
This workshop will cover use of the Canon speedlite flash system for creative lighting setups. Focus will be on use of multiple flash units and light shaping tools. We will also touch on such advanced flash topics as “light painting” correcting your flash units with gels as well as use of your flashes zoom function to most accurately use your flash units.

Topics:
-Overview of the speedlite system and menu functions
-Using TTL flash versus Manual Power Setting
-Use of multiple flash units: use of master and slave flash units
-Light shaping tools for use with speedlite system: fong dome, Lite Panels, reflector and fill cards
-Use of Zoom function on flasher to place light in precise locations in your photographs
-“Painting Light” with speedlite flasher: Using longer exposure time in conjunction with multiple flasher to layer light into your photograph.

PREREQUISITES: Workshop attendees should have a working knowledge of the Canon speedlite system. Students should also feel confident using their cameras and shooting in manual mode since this workshop will include multiple shooting exercises.

Adobe Lightroom
Adobe Lightroom has emerged as an essential tool in digital photographic workflows. This one-day hands-on workshop will focus on how to professionally organize, develop, and process your images efficiently to ensure predictable and constant results. Participants will work with a combination of test images and their own pictures using RAW/ DNG or jpeg files for select exercises.

-Creating efficient workflow's using Lightroom
-Managing and organizing images from import
-Refining images using white balance, exposure, and tone reproduction tools
-Preparing slideshows, web galleries, and final prints
