Hollywood’s Golden Era produced some of photography’s most spectacular portraiture. Glamour photographers like George Hurrell made stars into legends with their sparkling imagery.
In this two-day, hands-on workshop, noted photographer, author, teacher and lecturer Arthur Rainville will teach you the secrets that made this genre so magical:
• Facial and body analysis techniques
• When and how to use hard and soft light modifiers
• Using ‘kicker’ lights to add dramatic dimension
• Creating Hollywood movie ‘cookies’ to spark backgrounds
• Melodramatic posing for acute and obtuse angular impact
• Delicate hand and body posing to accentuate the feminine
• Powerful men’s portrait designs via perspective
• Producing simple sets to build bold compositions
• The ‘Look’ – old-world soft focus in a digital world
• Modern retouching techniques to mirror the old masters
Demonstrations and studio photography sessions with models will serve as practical experience. Attendees will also take part in round-tables about how to use classical inspirations in today’s contemporary glamour photography. Each workshop participant is urged to bring examples of fashion and glamour photographs from magazines for discussion.
Participants are also encouraged to bring their digital cameras and lenses to record lighting, posing demonstrations and for the studio sessions.
